Nick Lazzaro ‘23, a political science major, was recently named to Worcester Business Journal's 2022 “40 Under Forty” list.
The list, which is published annually, recognizes “outstanding young leaders who are shaking up the Central Mass business community. These business leaders share a commitment to business success and personal growth, along with a passion to help strengthen the communities that they live and work in.”
Lazzaro was only 19-years-old when he started a car detailing business, “Nick’s On-Site Detailing,” to help pay for his college tuition. He credits the Carlyse and Arthur A. Ciocca ’59 Center for Business, Ethics, and Society for helping prepare him for his role as a successful businessman. Through the Ciocca Center, Lazzaro connected with alumni entrepreneurs and participated in the 2022 Shark Tank competition, winning a $3,000 investment in his company.
Also at 19, Lazzaro was elected to Millbury’s school board, making him the youngest elected official in the town’s history. Two years later, he began using a portion of the profits from his car detailing business to provide scholarships for Millbury students interested in pursuing business majors at two- or four-year colleges.
Asked by Worcester Business Journal’s Tim Doyle for his advice to graduating college students, Lazzaro said that he would encourage his peers to seize the moment. “Be a risk taker, question everything, and never take an opportunity for granted. You just never know what door it will open,” Lazzaro said.
