Expanded leadership role reflects College’s commitment to sustaining Jesuit presence and mission in Catholic higher education

Holy Cross announced that Rev. Keith Maczkiewicz, S.J., Ed.D., has been promoted from associate vice president for mission and ministry to vice president for mission and chief mission officer, effective July 1, 2026.

At a time when the number of Jesuits serving on college campuses nationwide continues to decline, Holy Cross’ decision to elevate a Jesuit priest into a senior leadership role reflects the College’s deep commitment to sustaining its Jesuit mission. In recent years, the College has also welcomed several new Jesuits into faculty, administrative and pastoral roles, underscoring Holy Cross’ distinctive position among its peers and the Society of Jesus’ confidence in the institution.

In this expanded role, Fr. Maczkiewicz will lead the Division of Mission and Ministry, report directly to President Vincent D. Rougeau and help shape the strategic direction of the College through a mission-centered lens.

“At a moment when many institutions are navigating the realities of a diminished Jesuit presence in higher education, Holy Cross is honored to have the opportunity to benefit from and foster Jesuit leadership, formation and accompaniment in the life of the College,” said Rougeau. “Fr. Maczkiewicz is an exceptional leader whose intellectual depth, pastoral experience and unwavering dedication to Jesuit higher education make him uniquely qualified to serve in this capacity.”

A Jesuit priest ordained in 2018, Fr. Maczkiewicz has built a distinguished career in mission leadership, student formation and Catholic higher education.  As associate vice president for mission and ministry at Holy Cross, he has strengthened mission integration across the College, expanded opportunities for student spiritual formation and deepened engagement with the institution’s Jesuit, Catholic identity across campus.

Prior to returning to the College in 2024, Fr. Maczkiewicz served as director of campus ministry and university chaplain at Fairfield University, where he led a diverse interfaith staff in providing for the spiritual and pastoral needs of the campus community. He has also held ministry positions at Georgetown University, Holy Cross and the University of Scranton.

“I’m honored to join President Rougeau’s Leadership Team in this role and to build upon the outstanding work of my predecessor, Michele Murray,” said Fr. Maczkiewicz. “Together, we have worked to strengthen the College’s Jesuit, Catholic mission and deepen Jesuit presence on campus, including welcoming several Jesuits into faculty and administrative leadership roles in recent years. I’m grateful for the opportunity to continue building on that strong foundation.”

Fr. Maczkiewicz holds a bachelor’s degree from Fairfield University and a master’s degree from Providence College. Following his entrance into the Society of Jesus, he pursued additional graduate studies at Loyola University Chicago and the Jesuit School of Theology at Santa Clara University. In 2024, he earned an Ed.D. from Boston College, where he was part of the inaugural Executive Doctor of Higher Education cohort, with a special concentration in Catholic higher education.
