The College of the Holy Cross is once again among the liberal arts colleges with the highest number of Fulbright students, according to The Chronicle of Higher Education, which published its annual “Top Producers of U.S. Fulbright Students by Type of Institution, 2014-15” on Feb. 12.
With more than 62 applicants applying for a Fulbright grant, the College tied for seventh place with nine applicants receiving the award. Eight members of the Class of 2014 and one member of the Class of 2012 received grants last spring and are currently working and teaching abroad in Argentina, England, Germany, Indonesia, Kyrgyzstan, Russia, Spain, Sri Lanka and Turkey.
Since 2005, Holy Cross has received a total of 70 Fulbright grants, and has consistently been among the nation’s top producers of Fulbright students at the undergraduate level. The Fulbright Program, sponsored by the U.S. Department of State, is widely recognized as the most prestigious international exchange program in the world. The highly competitive grants are awarded on the basis of academic merit and professional promise.
Holy Cross tied for seventh place with Grinnell College (9), Hamilton College (9), Lewis & Clark College (9), and Wheaton College (9).
Other liberal arts colleges with 10 or more Fulbright students this year are Pitzer College (19), Smith College (15), Amherst College (13), Oberlin (13), Occidental College (13), Middlebury College (12), Scripps College (11), Williams College (11), Bates College (10), and Pomona College (10).
