A Story of Belonging: Carolyn Curtin ’25

Each student's journey at Holy Cross is unique. After arriving on campus, emotions can range from the excitement of starting something new to the sadness of leaving something familiar behind and everything in between. It may take time to feel like they belong. So we’ve asked our students: when was the moment you fell in love with Holy Cross?

Carolyn Curtin '25 shares how she found her place through one of the College’s most beloved traditions – Lessons and Carols:

"The moment where I fell in love with Holy Cross was when I joined the College Choir my junior year. The community I found doing College Choir was so special and I absolutely love being a part of it. Everyone was so kind, welcoming and supportive even though I joined later in my college career.

We do many different bonding events as a choir – my favorite being when we all went bowling to foster our wonderful community we have together. During choir, we also have time to make announcements to each other to know what other things members of choir are doing so we can support each other in our other passions.

During every Lesson and Carols, we all wear red ribbons somewhere – either in our hair, as a belt loop or on our wrists. This is really special because we are not only wearing a similar thing, but we all help each other pick where we put our ribbon right before the concert starts.

We put on a variety of performances throughout the year, but my favorite is Lessons and Carols, the Advent celebration held every December in St. Joseph Memorial Chapel. During every Lesson and Carols, we all wear red ribbons somewhere – either in our hair, as a belt loop or on our wrists. This is really special because we are not only wearing a similar thing, but we all help each other pick where we put our ribbon right before the concert starts. Being able to create art and share it with others in the Holy Cross community has been such a highlight in my time here at the College."
