NAME Nora Marino ’12
HOMETOWN Evanston, Ill.
AREAS OF STUDY Psychology major with Peace and Conflict Studies concentration
WHERE SHE’S STUDYING La Universidad de La Coruna in La Coruña, Spain
WHY SHE CHOSE SPAIN “I want to become fluent in the Spanish language and because it is increasingly important to understand other parts of the world outside the United States. I selected La Coruña as my host city because it appears to be very authentic and non-touristy. I hope that by studying here I will become immersed in the Spanish life, culture and language.”
WHAT SHE’S MOST LOOKING FORWARD TO “Learning about the Spanish culture and customs, as well as the customs of the other countries that I visit. As a Peace and Conflict Studies concentrator, learning about other cultures has always been a huge passion of mine, and I believe that studying abroad will allow me to pursue a career in this field — even though I have no idea what that will be yet! I’m also excited about traveling to many wonderful, interesting and amazing places both in Spain and throughout Europe (and hopefully Morocco)!”
WHY SHE’S BLOGGING “When I was a young girl, my grandmother told me time and again to keep a journal so I could remember my experiences. Since I have kept a journal of some of my travels, I am quite interested in the opportunity to blog. I was so grateful for all the Holy Cross students who did the first-year blogs when I was a prospective and also for those who did the Study Abroad blogs when I was considering studying abroad, as they gave me an honest account of their year. Therefore, I want to share my experiences with future study abroad students and future Crusaders about the real adventures — and challenges — of studying abroad.”
