In a video recorded by the Telegram & Gazette’s “Go!” section, the College of the Holy Cross’ Cantor Art Gallery showcased its most recent exhibition, “Spark,” which is a celebration of alumnae artists from the College. On display from March 14 to April 12, the exhibition includes the work of eight artists, graduates ranging from the class of 1979 to the class of 2011.
Amy Archambault ’08 and Millard Studio Supervisor at the College, explained “You Can Survive,” her installation piece that features a broken-down and abandoned RV. “I wanted to create a structure that brought a training zone, a habitat, some sort of survival kit to a motor vehicle,” she said.
Teresa Buscemi ’09, another alumnae artist featured in the exhibition, showcases her photography, which is accented by her use of both electronic and alternative light sources. In order to produce her striking photographs, she instructed a model to dress in all black and to stand against a black backdrop. Then, after applying silver tape to the model’s body, she took pictures of the model performing mundane tasks. “I’m attracted to light, things that are lit beautifully,” said Buscemi. “It’s seeing what the light does and how it reacts.”
Spark is part of the College’s yearlong 40th anniversary of coeducation on the Hill. Featured alumnae artists include Margaret Lanzetta ’79, Ann Marie Kennedy ’89, Rachelle Beaudoin ’04, Elizabeth Hamilton ’04, Teresa Buscemi ’07, Amy Archambault ’08, Justine Hill ’08 and Haley Kattner Allen ’11.
