Ellen Keohane, director of ITS at the College of the Holy Cross, talks to the Telegram & Gazette about how social media is changing the way people watch the Olympics.
“Watching the Olympics with family and friends is a wonderful tradition. But disconnecting from the noise of social media isn't easy,” she told the reporter. “Even if you could unsubscribe from all news feeds on your smartphone and stay off Facebook for a whole day — a big 'if' there — it doesn't mean the person in the cubicle next to you at work or in the dentist's waiting room isn't going to blurt out the news about winning a gold medal,” Ms. Keohane said.
