Book Projects

In this issue’s Syllabus story, HCM Assistant Editor Pamela Reponen visited Professor Susan Schmidt’s course, Book Projects. Students in the class explore the tradition of handmade artists’ books and create three books of their own based on different themes, learning how narratives are created by blending images and text. In this Web Exclusive photo gallery, you can view images of  “Adventures of Little Dog,” the book created by Maggie Reichenbach ’14 for her “Tales Retold” project, which required students to create a story based on an interpretation or update of one aspect of a fable or fairytale. In creating “Adventures of Little Dog,” Reichenbach retells the folk tale “Manawee,” utilizing a double French door format for the cover.
