Small Plates

Our alumni work and explore their passions in the food industry in diverse, discerning and delicious ways. “Tapas” are varied and flavorful small plates or dishes, and, much like sampling multiple dishes at a tapas restaurant, we wanted to highlight as many of these alumni as possible. The plates may be small, but their stories are anything but. Savor a taste of their worlds.

Pictured are plates from the original advertisment for a set of 12 royal purple Wedgwood English porcelain plates, which commemorated 12 different scenes from the College. The plates feature a border design of wheat and grapes, symbolic of bread and wine, and at the top, a reproduction of the papal seal, along with vignettes of the College seal, the crest of the House of Loyola and the seal of the Commonwealth of Massachusetts. College scenes include Saint Joseph Memorial Chapel, Beaven Hall, Loyola Hall, Alumni Hall, Fenwick Hall, O’Kane Hall (building), Fenwick Hall Commencement Porch, Dinand Library, the entrance gate, an old print of buildings, an airplane view of the College and O’Kane Hall (tower). These commemorative alma mater memory plates were very popular when they were available for purchase in 1933 and retailed for $12.
